I'm not sure which Description of Egypt you're looking for. The important one is about 25 volumes and was prepared, with important illustrations [etchings, etc.], by the team of French scholars that Napoleon took on his expedition to Egypt about 1800 -- La Description de l'Egypte. I believe I did see the Taschen edition once, but after all that was only a collection of excerpts, a drop in the bucket of a monumental work. The book is important not only because it was a pioneering work in its time, but because much of what those French savants found has since been vandalized or destroyed on site.

by the way, I'm sorry to hear of Seth Benardete's death. I read his book --as I recall-- on the first two books of H's Histories. y'hi zikhro barukh
